Archimedes of Syracuse (287BC - 212BC)

Archimedes was the greatest mathematician of ancient times. In Maths he is best known for his approximation of pi to between the values 310/71 and 31/7.

Most people know of Archimedes because of the story that he shouted "Eureka" in his bath, whilst working on his theorem which defines the weight of a body immersed in a liquid.
