Sir Isaac Newton (1642 - 1727)

Sir Isaac Newton, was perhaps the greatest scientific genius of all time, Newton made fundamental contributions to every major area of scientific and mathematical concern to his generation.

This English Mathematician and Physicist is perhaps best known for his work on calculus and for his experiments on light, prisms and the eye.

According to the well-known story, it was on seeing an apple fall in his orchard at some time during 1665 or 1666 that Newton conceived that the same force governed the motion of the Moon and the apple. He was then able to calculate the force needed to hold the Moon in its orbit.
