Analytic Geometry and Trigonometry

Analytic geometry relates algebra and geometry. It is sometimes called Cartesian geometry, after Descartes, who was the first to exploit the methods of algebra in geometry. It provides a way to represent an algebraic equation as a line or curve on a graph.

Trigonometry is used widely by astronomers, navigators and surveyors to calculate angles and distances when direct measurement is impossible. The relationship between the lengths of two sides of a right angled triangle are called trigonometric ratios. Using trigonometric ratios, a person can calculate the unknown angles and lengths in a triangle.
