| Analytic geometry relates algebra and geometry. It is sometimes called Cartesian geometry, after Descartes, who was the first to exploit the methods of algebra in geometry. It provides a way to represent an algebraic equation as a line or curve on a graph.
Trigonometry is used widely by astronomers, navigators and surveyors to calculate angles and distances when direct measurement is impossible. The relationship between the lengths of two sides of a right angled triangle are called trigonometric ratios. Using trigonometric ratios, a person can calculate the unknown angles and lengths in a triangle. |
